Sollux,
I had the same problem. The server is not updated past the last update, so just downgrade it or you can reinstall it

Downgrading Minecraft
Search in Windows Explorer for "%appdata%"
Then open the .minecraft folder
Then open the bin folder, in which contains the minecraft.jar file
Download the correct jar version you want
If you already have the jar file, or you have downloaded it, delete the minecraft.jar file in the bin folder
Drag or copy/paste the downloaded minecraft.jar into the bin folder
Open your minecraft, Don't update!
You should have minecraft v1.**!

Downgrading Minecraft - Mac
Open finder
Go to your user folder/search for the Library folder, it will have a court house icon
Open library and then open application support
Then open the minecraft folder
After that open the bin folder
Once inside you will see the minecraft.jar file
Replace that jar file with the version jar you downloaded
You should now have Minecraft V1.***
